NYC Aces Team Program
From spending most of our lives in the sport, we’ve seen firsthand the profound positive impact that tennis can have on a child’s life and well-being. Learning how to play the game from an early age helps kids develop a strong work ethic, discipline, physical health, and mental skills. While tennis helps make a child well rounded, it just as importantly proves valuable in opening new doors and opportunities that ensure their future success and happiness. However, due to the significant financial costs associated with learning how to play, many children never even get the chance to step on a court. NYC Aces focuses on reversing that trend by providing low-cost, high performance training early on, ensuring more youth realize their full potential.
How It Works
Approximately 20 children between Pre-K through 3rd Grade are selected for the 15 week NYC Aces Team Program from a free, open tryout. Children are evaluated based on their talent, work ethic, attitude, and financial need.
Selected children attend group lessons focused on developing character, athletic skills, tennis skills, and individual growth. Former NCAA Division 1 player Jonathan Raude directs the program with the assistance of USPTA certified coaches and a volunteer crew of current and former NCAA Division 1 and Division 3 players.
As part of the program, we want our players to experience the best that tennis has to offer and make friendships that last a lifetime, on and off the court. Throughout the season, children will take part in special tennis experiences such as playing with pro tennis players.
We are proud to run our program out of the Queens College Tennis Center. The tennis center’s 12 hard courts—six indoor and six outdoor—serve up tennis year-round, making it the perfect facility for training, mentoring, and developing Queens youth players.
